Thanksgiving Day 2009

We hosted our first Thanksgiving Dinner last night with eight guests. Everyone brought a dish (or three) and we shared the meal together with some good wine. Good evening.

The turkey wasn't really purple, but that's how the picture came out. It was extremely yummy!

Mrs. Turns 29 for the First Time

Happy First 29th Birthday to the Mrs!

We spent the weekend in Berlin, with two friends. It was amazing to be in a major city, with a major history: Brandenburgertur, Reichstag, Alexanderplatz, Checkpoint Charlie, etc. It really is true what people say, the people of Berlin have their own manner of speaking, of dressing, of moving. A great manner. And since it has been 20 years since the fall of the wall, there were a number of exhibits around the city that brought history to life.

We even visited a friend who recently moved into her new apartment - in a building literally built next to where the wall once way. Oh, how the world changes.

And naturally, the Mrs. got some great gifts. And one has to admit that one is getting older when a handheld vacuum is exciting:

And yes, the vacuum was given to the Mrs. from the Mr.

Little Sick Peewee

Our little Peewee is quite sick - we aren't quite sure yet what is wrong or if it is treatable. On Wednesday she got a bunch of blood tests and an ultrasound- meaning she got a new accessory and a haircut. She is a little shy with the haircut but posed with her new jewelry.

Lets hope she gets better.

20 Years Ago Today; 6 Months Ago Today

20 years ago today a wall fell in Berlin, forever changing the past, present, and future. Something that no one believed would happen in the foreseeable future happened anyway. Fate waits for no man, it seems.

The Mr. and the Mrs. were both eight years old. The Mr. lived in West Germany and claims he doesn't recall all that much from the day beyond watching the news with his dad. The Mrs. lived in the US and has strong memories of that day, the pictures, the impromptu celebrations, the feelings, and my grandmother crying happily on the couch.

Now that we magically located each other and both live here in the united Germany, the anniversary celebrations cannot be missed – the best, in Mrs’ humble opinion is this art installation.

A smaller, less global celebration is also underway: the new Steinbach clan is officially six months old today.

Sometimes it is the Small Things

Over six months ago two of my favorite necklaces tied themselves into a knot that was so complicated and thick that it even beat the world-renowned-knot-undoer-lady, also known to the Mrs. as "Mom". And Mom battled bravely on it for over one hour.

Then Little One took it on; then Mom had try 2; and then I assumed the call to battle. All over six months.

However, this evening, after almost another hour of blood, sweat, tears, and numerous naughty words*, the Mrs. won and separated the one messy knot into two beautiful necklaces that she can finally wear again.

Here's the proof:

Sometimes it is the small things.

*only one of these four is accurate. :)

PostWedding Isn't PreWedding

For the first time in over one year PostWedding is not PreWedding. How 'bout that! We are all married now: the Steinbachs; the Tamburos; the Jettons. Each wedding was different and each was stunningly beautiful and touching in their own ways.

Congrats to the three new families!

Over the past 10 days the Mr. and Mrs. were in Dayton, Ohio helping the new Jettons prepare for their wedding. The Mr. spent each morning sleeping, playing computer, or just chilling around. The Mrs. ran all over the place with the bride-to-be, completing To Dos and chatting with little sis. It was by far the best trip we've had to the States this year (maybe ever). In the end, and as always, the wedding went off extremely well and there are pictures here.

There are also pictures of the Cassidy pre-Christmas gift exchange...
